National Museum visitors are ever increasing and it's fast becoming one of the principal Phnom Penh attractions in conjunction with ever increasing numbers of visitors who head out to the Angkor Temples of Siem Reap. This is due to the fact that there are more Angkorian artefacts here than in any other museum in all of Cambodia, over 5,000 in fact. It's an iconic feature in the sights of the city, sitting next to the Royal Palace and where the lost statue of the Leper King is located, amongst other important historical articles in the way of ceramics, sculptures and ethnographic pieces. Angkorian era relics are not all that is of importance here though, and many pre and post Angkorian displays are present, such as Buddha figures and traditional religious items used throughout post-Angkorian history. The museum is keen to promote Cambodian history and culture throughout the ages.
