Itinerary

Day 0 - Arrive at Siem Reap

Met from your flight or overland transportation with a private transfer to your chosen hotel

Day 1 - Angkor Thom & Temples of the Forest

A visit to the royal bathing area at the tranquil reservoir of Srah Srang this morning - wait for the sky to change colour across the water, as the sun rises, for an amazing photo opportunity before driving the short distance to the photogenic Ta Prohm temple of "Tomb Raider" movie fame before the tour buses and crowds arrive. Take a stroll through the lightly wooded forest to the utterly deserted Ta Nei temple before ending the morning on top of the imposing temple mountain of Ta Keo.

After lunch, we enter the walled city of Angkor Thom at the famous Victory gate before walking along the the imposing laterite walls through the dappled light of the forest to the East (Death) Gate. From the Elephant Terrace and Terrace of the Leper King we walk though the sheltered parkland behind Phimeanakas and Baphuon, before arriving at Bayon temple. Sunset drinks will be served at a beautiful spot we discovered by the water's edge.

Day 2 - Angkor Wat & the Grand Circuit

AM: Optionally we might leave the hotel pre-dawn to catch the sunrise over Angkor Wat, one of the great srchitectural achievements of mankind. After sunrise, we take advantage of the cool of the morning to explore the central complex and surrounding bas-reliefs, either taking a local breakfast nearby the temple or returning to the hotel for a late breakfast. After such an early start you are at leisure to explore Siem Reap town or perhaps relax with a massage before lunch. Try the manipulations of a traditional Khmer massage - a unique experience.

Day 2 continued

PM: After lunch we travel by car to Preah Khan Temple, a large site with the only existing two-storey structure remaining from the Angkor Era. This place is especially good for birding and not as busy as some other temple sites. We continue to the unique and charming Neak Pean, before coming to either the photogenic tree at Ta Som, or the brooding Banteay Samre, similar in style to Angkor Wat itself.

This evening pay a visit to one a performance of the famous shadow puppets, and traditional Khmer music, whilst enjoying the cuisine of the country.

Day 3 - Tonle Sap and Roluos

Psa Leu is a wonderful untouristic wholesale market which we can visit on the way to Tonle Sap lake. Turning right off the the highway to Phnom Penh we make our way down a track to the photogenic stilted village of Kompong Khleang. This community lives on a slight rise in the ground and is surrounded by the waters of the lake in the rainy season. We return to the peaceful Roluos group of temples, visiting Preah Ko and Bakong in the late afternoon with an optional nearby water blessing in Lolei by the buddhist monks.
