Built in 1907, the Governor's House is a prime example of French architecture. In the south end of town it can be reached by walking down the river from where you can appreciate the town's French colonial architectural legacy - the French colonial buildings are fine tourist attractions in themselves.
The streets of Battambang are home to some of the best preserved French colonial style buildings. These date back to the early 20th century, and are a vivid reminder of the history and French presence in Cambodia.

Just outside Battambang Phnom Sampeau is a modern temple located atop a limestone cliff. A road wrapped around the hill with stunning panoramic views winds its way to the top. You pass a cave which was used by the Khmer Rouge on the approach also.
If you've not yet visited Angkor, or are still thirsty for more temple ruins, Wat Ek Phom is a beautiful temple ruin dating from the 11th century set in tranquil surroundings a short journey away from town.
Set up by a local NGO in 1986, the Battambang Circus aims to promote artistic creativity and sustainable development within disadvantaged communities. Trapeze artists, tightrope walkers, musicians and much more feature in the circus. Performances every Thursday evening.
A little way out of town is this beautiful collection of temple ruins located at the top of a hill and set within stunning countryside. Many of the towers are still in good condition, and the views are magnificent. A considerable stairway leads to the top.
On the route to Phnom Banan is located this small winery, which is the only one of it's kind in Cambodia. Located in the rural countryside surrounding the city, after exploring the vineyard you can sample the 'fruits' of labour by tasting the wine and fresh grape juice.
