Cambodia - Weather in September. The wetter SW monsoon shows the first signs of giving way to the drier NE monsoon but afternoon rain showers are still frequent. Humidity continues to drop along with the temperature towards a low for the year.
September conditions are close to ideal for comfortable touring and the tourist crowds are around the lightest of the whole year with the European Summer holiday's ended. The mornings are generally sunny and warm and the dropping humidity levels create comfortable touring conditions. Hotels are still priced at low season rates and the countryside is lush and green after the long wet monsoon. Tonle sap water levels are high and the lake is very accessible and beautiful.

Johanna says: "I fell in love with Cambodia when I arrived one September and saw the pools of muddy water by the little wooden huts and the gorgeous lotus plants that were in bloom. The cooler climate was different to what I had imagined of Cambodia - sitting at the back of a remorque*, I actually felt quite fresh first thing in the morning!"
Tourist numbers are lower than August because the European summer holidays are now over. It is a wonderful time to visit the lake as the water levels are quite high and you can easily take a boat through the flooded forest. The magical experience of touching the branches of tall trees that are now deep in water - the laughing children in the floating villages - this is the month to enjoy the best of Tonle Sap so for those planning a journey between Siem Reap and Battambang, consider an adventurous boat trip.
