Is it acceptable to talk about Khmer history with locals?
It's not seen as rude or insensitive, but use your common sense when doing so as this is a very sensitive matter. Some people will be willing to share their experiences in the Khmer Rouge years but you should not start the conversation or ask direct personal questions. Approach the subject delicately and the reaction of the person you are talking to will mark the pace of the conversation.
