PRIVATE TOUR - NOT A JOIN-IN TOUR

This tour takes you to the main sites the ABOUTAsia way - without the crowds - but also invites you to step off the beaten path to see some of the less visited sites. Explore the jungle at Koh Ker and Beng Mealea and visit the birthplace of the Angkor Empire at Kulen Mountain, also the home of Cambodia's largest reclining Buddha, a river of lingas and refreshing waterfalls. Very much designed with the temple lover in mind this tour is the definitive itinerary for those wishing to experience everything Angkor has to offer. Complete your visit with sunrise over Angkor Wat followed by a tour of the temple when it is at its quietest.

ITINERARY DETAILS

day 1Arrive in Siem Reap where you will be met by your expert ABOUTAsia guide and transferred to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy your first taste of Angkor with a visit to Banteay Kdei temple followed by sunset drinks on the moat of Angkor Thom, a world away from the tourist crowds.

day 2A single, magical day at the temples following our well researched crowd avoidance itinerary, including Ta Prohm of ‘Tomb Raider’ fame, Angkor Thom: Terrace of the Elephants, Terrace of the Leper King, Preah Palilay, Phimeanakas, Baphuon, and the Bayon with its captivating stone faces. During your tour enjoy a wonderful tuk tuk breakfast in the secluded forest temple of Ta Nei. (B)

day 3Head out of Siem Reap to Koh Ker, one of the ancient capitals of the Angkor civilization. Dominated by Prasat Thom, which strikingly resembles a Mayan temple, the area is littered with ruins gripped in the embrace of twisting tree roots: you will likely have some of the sites to yourself. Return to town via jungle-clad Beng Mealea temple which, in a much collapsed state, retains a very atmospheric feel. (B)

day 4Journey to Phnom Kulen, the sacred ‘Mountain of Lychee’ venerated by Cambodians as the birthplace of the Angkor Empire, stopping on the way at Banteay Srei, a small but beautifully carved temple. At Kulen visit the Linga River and large reclining Buddha and cool off in the refreshingwaterfall. Return to Siem Reap via Banteay Samre, and if time allows, visit the Landmine Museum. (B)

day 5Motor through the darkness of pre-dawn to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat as we guide you to the best photo vantage points. Explore the temple in the hours immediately after sunrise when the temple is at its quietest. Private transfer to the airport for your departure flight. (B)
