Song Saa Island Resort

Song Saa Resort is as seductive as its name ('Sweetheart' in Khmer) implies. Open since December 2011, Song Saa brings a new dimension to Cambodia - with a first class island resort to match the draw of the Angkor temples, Cambodia is now a stand-alone vacation destination for the luxury traveler.

Location

The resort spans the islands of Koh Ouen and Koh Bong, 30 minutes by speed boat from Sihanoukville. Guests may arrive from Phnom Penh by road, from Siem Reap by scheduled flight (please check for current schedules), or private flight.

Rooms

All 27 villas have private pools, and are uncompromising on luxury, but designed to reflect the simple beauty of the natural environment:

• Jungle Villas - one or two bedroom villas available, set higher on the island in a lush setting.
  Villas 9 and 10 are the most private 1 bedroom villas, with Villa 11 being the more private of the 2 bedroom villas, on the North edge of the island - so not quite as much sun. Villas 4-8 face sunset, 11-14 face sunrise.
• Overwater Villas - one or two bedroom villas available, set over the sea with private steps down to the water, all facing sunset (over Koh Rong).
  Villas 18-20 are the quietest 1 bedroom villas, being further from the public areas of the resort.
• Ocean View Villas - one bedroom villas, each with a private (man-made) beach (no sea access), facing sunrise. We often refer to these as Beach Villas (every villa has an ocean view!).
  We prefer the beach villas on the southern end - Villas 24-27

Facilities

All rates are on a "fully inclusive" full board, include non-motorised watersports, soft drinks, house beers, wines and spirits.

Large infinity edge swimming pool, spa and wellness centre suspended among the rainforest, yoga and meditation centre on the eastern shore - ideal for yoga at sunrise, and a beachside water-sports centre offering sailing, diving, kayaking and snorkeling. There is wifi - but why would you want it?

Combine your visit to the Angkor Temples, and a stay at Amansara, with some relaxation at Song Saa.

Activities

Activities such as snorkelling, kayaking and sailing (Laser or Hobie Cat) are included, but a range of excursions are available. The Conservation Team (all marine biologists) are involved in many of these, including a highly recommended visit to see their community work on Koh Rong (where you may see the Song Saa buffaloes Ham and Burger!). Visits to private beaches on Koh Rong, or exploring the Mangroves are deservedly the most popular excursions.

Song Saa have recruited Neil Wager, formerly of the North Island resort in the Seychelles - the dining is worth a visit in itself. Discuss the day's dining with one of the chefs: numerous private locations for a romantic dinner, desert island picnic lunches, or have a private meal created in your villa, perhaps with your own cinema screen set up.
