Phnom Penh - Sihanoukville is a route only possible using land transport, and from Phnom Penh is the most common route as it links with routes from the rest of Cambodia. Its the escape to the coast that awaits, and is therefore a common route popular with locals and travelers alike. Options include private taxi or bus without any major hassles.
Private taxis cost around US$60 and will take around 3-4 hours to get there (230km). Best to look at sharing with fellow travelers if you are traveling alone through Cambodia in order to cut costs.
These can be purchased from as little as US$3.50 in areas common with budget travellers. Otherwise tickets can be bought from independent travel agents throughout town, or company ticket offices in or around Psar Thmei in Phnom Penh. Journey times should be 4-5 hours (230km), and prices will usually reflect comfort and reliability, and range from US$3.50 - $8.
